When it comes to acing interviews, the key word is preparation. If you think you can just show up to an interview and wing it, think again.
Your number one job on an interview is to sell the employer on you – on your skills, experience and fit with the company. You can’t do that with passion and ease if you have to stop and refer to your resume. Here are four steps to help you prep like a pro:
1. Elevate Your Pitch
To get the interview rolling, you will likely be asked to “tell me about yourself.” The dreaded elevator pitch – there’s no way around it. The only way I’ve found to make sure my pitch is perfect is to write it out. Just dump all the words on the page and move them around until you have a few sentences that hit all your high notes. Then share it with a few trusted advisors to make sure it works. Say it aloud in front of a mirror. Practice does in fact make perfect.
