Team Member Title: Social Media Marketing Manager

Only Go-Getters Need Apply: The Social Media Marketing Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of social media for Garrett Popcorn, an international family-run business headquartered in Chicago since 1949.

This high profile role is perfect for someone with 4-6 years of general marketing experience and at least 3 years of direct, hands-on experience with social media. We’re looking for someone with these qualifications:

  • Entrepreneurial spirit – Social Media is not for those who like hard and fast rules. We’re looking for candidates who take thoughtful risk to push the boundaries; who are willing to fail early, learn often and press forward.
  • Equally comfortable taking direction as well as “managing up” – When it comes to social media, everyone has an opinion. We want someone who is comfortable setting expectations, using education and persuasion to gain executive buy-in, and to respectfully say no when it makes sense to do so.
  • Has branding on the brain – The Garrett Popcorn brand is special in that it is equally appealing to street cleaners and celebrities; to kids piling off of school buses and executives ducking into chauffeured cars. With retail shops around the world and a growing online business, the brand is sacred. The brand is you.
  • Is mindful that Social Media will not save the world – As much of a game-changer as it is, social media alone will not double our revenue. We believe in integration across touch-points including web, packaging, retail, even mobile. If you can talk about integration, we want to hear what you’ve got to say.

The Nitty Gritty – Overall, this position will work to expand how Garrett Popcorn leverages social media as an increasingly important yet integrated distribution channel that influences customer service, customer experience, brand communications, marketing promotions, and product development.

  • With respect to social media, you will be the Garrett Popcorn Brand Evangelist and ensure that our brand is represented consistently and appropriately across all digital channels. This includes defining and maintaining a consistent voice and presence.
  • You will be responsible for developing an integrated social experience to raise Garrett Popcorn brand awareness and drive sales, including our online strategy but also the offline / retail experience as well. This includes identifying the target buyers, defining the objectives,
  • In addition to expanding our presence on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, Flickr, YouTube and customer communities such as Viewpoints and Yelp! You will be responsible for exploring and recommending tools, widgets, gizmos and gadgets to add to the mix.
  • As the social media lead, you will be responsible for monitoring, managing and optimizing our online presence. This includes developing best practices; establishing and tracking KPIs; measuring site traffic, conversion and other key drivers of commerce; and generally optimizing our social media efforts within the larger go-to-market strategy.
  • Develop strategies to create social content such as major events in cities with Garrett Popcorn retail operations and other innovative ways to leverage the social platform to reach target buyers

Criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, business administration, popcornology required
  • Self-starter – this should be in your DNA
  • Minimum of 4 years marketing, web or PR agency or similar client-side experience
  • Successful track record of developing integrated marketing strategies in a consumer retail environment
  • Extensive experience with social media marketing channels and measurement tools – be prepared to show you can walk the talk
  • Deep understanding of how brand marketing and communications influence retail and online purchase
  • Strong analytic, strategic thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills; proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to manage junior staff, agency partners, and senior executive expectations
  • Beyond basic understanding of digital communications; ideally you will also have familiarity with SEO, Paid Search and Geo-Targeting tactics.
