When the Universe whispers in your ear, you have to listen. If you don’t, one of two things will happen: You will either miss an opportunity right under your nose, or the Universe will start screaming. In my case, the Universe threw a hissy fit.

Before staring my own marketing agency, I too was a driven job seeker and career climber. In my 20 years as a corporate marketer I’d learned a thing or two about personal branding, networking and job hunting and I was always willing to lend an ear of offer free advice to a fellow Chicago area marketer in need of a reality check. It felt good to help. A few years later I got the idea for MarketingJobWire.com; the concept was simple – provide a forum for people to share job leads with each other. Building the site allowed me to help even more people, and that felt great.

As the list grew, more and more peoople reached out to me for advice and I simply couldn’t keep up with the demand so I started to blog. (whisper) Readers found it helpful and I enjoyed writing. Then the American Marketing Association asked me to write a practical Career Column for their monthly newsletter. It didn’t pay a cent but gosh, it sure felt good to help the 29,000+ readers each month. (Whisper) When I was approached to write a bi-monthly column on personal branding / social networking for Marketing News Magazine I thought WOW, now I can help another 50,000 people and hey, the visibility ain’t bad either. (WHISPER)

By this time I’d started Parlay Communications and I was laser-focused on growing my business. I hired someone to help me run MarketingJobWire.com and I decided that whatever hissy fit the Universe was throwing would just have to wait. I knew there must be a way to help even more people but I felt I was already giving beyond my capacity. I was out of energy, out of time, and committed to making Parlay a profitable enterprise. And then Charlotte called.
